The North Otago Branch of the New Zealand Dental Association is pleased the Waitaki District Council is undertaking a referendum on optimising the fluoride level in drinking water. We support the Otago and Southland District Health Boards who recommend this, as robust scientific studies show that optimal fluoride levels are an effective preventative public health measure for reducing dental caries in the population, particularly in children and adolescents.
